Their Name Liveth For Evermore

Ode of Remembrance by Laurence Binyon
They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Like with so many families our family remembers those who gave their lives – we especially remember Alfred William Dewberry killed on 10th April 1917 aged 34, DaddyHens gt grandfather, buried in France

Remembered on the Silvertown war memorial in East London

  1. I too lost members of family in the world wars. Very sad day but without their sacrifice we would not be living the life we are now. The poem is very moving.

  2. Hello Mummyhen

Have been doing some research on ww1 with our daughter. My mother-in-law gave some things to her about Alfred William Dewberry. Alfred was my mother-in-laws grandfather.
